As a former rail yard area, Kendall Yards has been transformed into a developing neighborhood that offers sustainable urban living and thriving commercial development. Located a brief walk from Spokane’s downtown core, this area is a mix of businesses, condominiums, apartments, public art, and community gardens. It is a part of the West Central neighborhood of Spokane, dating back to the 1880s.

Kendall Yards is one of Spokane’s newest neighborhoods, developed with sustainability and urban living in mind. It is bordered by the Centennial Trail, a 37-mile walking and hiking trail, and is designed for walkability. The neighborhood spaces have mixed uses, from coffee shops to open spaces to art galleries. Locals can enjoy walking to their favorite restaurants or boutiques with ease.

Walking through Kendall Yards, one will find new and mature trees along the streets. Beautiful green, open spaces are intermixed with sophisticated homes. Robust community gardens can be found throughout the neighborhood.

The various events Kendall Yards provides, such as the Night Market, allow the community to gather as well. Wine aficionados can stroll to Maryhill Winery Spokane Tasting Room, which houses a 5,000-square-foot tasting room where locals can try first-class wines paired with small plates, charcuterie boards, or salads.

Outdoor recreation is readily available in Kendall Yards. With all its stunning green spaces, residents have various opportunities to get outside. The Centennial Trail is the heart and soul of the Spokane River Centennial Trail system in eastern Washington. It is a 37-mile paved trail that provides hiking, walking, biking, and other recreational opportunities along the Spokane River.

Olmsted Brothers Green is a park with ample green space. It provides a picnic shelter for family gatherings and a playground for children. This park was developed by the Olmsted Brothers, John Charles and Frederick Law Jr., both notable landscape architects. The Nest is another outdoor gathering spot where live music and outdoor events are held. A nest of osprey overlooks the plaza, which gives the community space its name.

On Wednesday evenings from mid-May to September, the Kendall Yards Night Market opens downtown. Local vendors gather to sell local produce, handmade foods and crafts, and other local goods. The event brings live music, local food, and other exciting activities to the community.
